Montegrappa – Dante Alighieri: Inferno (LTD)
Honoring the life and creations of the Florentine poet, Dante Alighieri, 700 years after his passing, Montegrappa debuted the new Divina Commedia series.
Presented in a vintage replica of Dante’s most famous book, which opens with the same well-known transcription from the gates of hell “Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch’intrate” (“Abandon all hope, ye who enter here”), the first fountain pen in the series is, as you have already guessed: Inferno.
Carefully crafted from silver and limited to 333 pieces available in silver and 9 in 18k gold, Inferno is a nod to Dante’s famous rima terza structure. With an artisanal core of a special magma blend of Montegrapphite that provides the backdrop for the story, the body and cap bring us every detail of Dante’s voyage through the nine circles of hell: Limbo, Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Wrath, Heresy, Violence, Fraud and Treachery.
From top to bottom, the intricate silver details take us through the nine circles of escalating horror, every sin and punishment found at each level, a perfect depiction of Dante’s description of the underworld.
By daring to write his most famous work in the local Florentine dialect, after more than 700 years since its completion, Inferno continues to reverberate through literature and art, and for the Italians, he insured immortality by paving the way for the language that later became Italian.
