From cap to top disc, every intricate element recounts Dante and Virgil’s ascent of Mount Purgatory. The clip of gold and silver keys marks their passage through Peter’s Gate.
The seven terraces of Purgatory and their punishments are reconstructed in lost-wax casting. The cleansing waters of Lethe, and earthly Paradise, are crafted in cloisonne.
