Namiki – Emperor Maki-e Goldfish
*Pen in stock
In this iconic piece from the permanent Namiki collection, three graceful gold fishes wave elegantly. The vibrant hues of the fishes, contrasting with the deep black Urushi lacquer at the pen’s base, along with the aquatic motif adorned with gold and silver, come together to create a harmonious and timeless elegance.
The Shishiai-Togidashi Maki-e (polished relief) technique combines multiple maki-e techniques. Taka-Maki-e involves the use of silver and 24-carat gold, creating a high-relief effect where Urushi and charcoal powder reveal intricate patterns. This method adds a three-dimensional quality and depth to the design. Hira Maki-e is another technique used, where gold or silver powder is sprinkled onto the pattern and then secured with a layer of polished lacquer. After drying, the pattern becomes visible through charcoal polishing.
