Namiki – Yukari Royale Vermillion
Introducing the Namiki Yukari Royale Urushi Maki-e Fountain Pen, a masterpiece meticulously crafted by Japanese maki-e artisans (kokkokai). This exquisite pen showcases the timeless Roiro Urushi technique in a rich, solid vermillion red hue.
The heart of this pen is its 18k gold nib, sized at #20, ensuring a smooth and luxurious writing experience. It offers the flexibility of both cartridge and converter filling methods, with a CON-70 converter included for your convenience.
The pen is elegantly presented in a wooden box and comes accompanied by a bottle of ink, adding to its aura of sophistication.
Sobriety, enduring modernity, and sheer elegance define this model’s pure design, elegantly adorned with the world-famous Namiki lacquer. Whether in deep black or vibrant vermilion, these two quintessential colors of traditional lacquer exude a captivating allure.
For centuries, the Chinese shielded their treasured possessions from the ravages of humidity with Urushi, a natural lacquer derived from the resin of Rhus Vernicifera, a tree native to Southeast Asia. It was later introduced to the eastern shores of the Japanese archipelago.
Namiki has always insisted on the highest quality Urushi, sourced from male lacquer trees harvested at a decade of age. Each tree yields a mere 3 or 4 teaspoons of lacquer, and the harvest window is exceptionally brief. The complexity of this process underscores the rarity and value of the product.
Traditionally limited to black and vermilion, the lacquer’s color palette only expanded in the 19th century with advances in chemistry. Each pen undergoes dozens of painstaking lacquer applications, followed by meticulous charcoal polishing. A special, oil-free topcoat imparts an unparalleled sheen and softness. Due to the numerous layers of lacquer, polishing, and drying, it takes a full three months to craft this exceptional model.
