With motifs carved into the luxurious black urushi lacquered surface of the fountain pen, with special chisels, with urushi lacquer filling those grooves, gold leaves and gold powder forming the pattern, the Sailor Chinkin Bumblebee is a masterpiece created with delicate and three-dimensional depth.

By skillfully combining large and small dots (tenbori technique), thin and thick lines (senbori technique), with surface scratching (kosuribori and katagiribori), the delicate work catches life with a deep perspective, while a rich texture is achieved. Chinkin is one of the ultimate techniques in urushi lacquerware, with every carve the artist permanently changes the urushi layer without leaving any chance to turn back on his work.

The main theme of this fountain pen is a Bumblebee, in the Japanese culture it is symbolising courage, persistence, luck and productive teamwork, the meticulous process being perfected by master Chinkin craftsman Misato Tsukada.

With a flat top, clipless, the ebonite fountain pen in a King of Pen size comes equipped with Sailor’s legendary large 21k gold nib.
